The musician and car collector Jay Kay, arrived at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week with the latest addition to his collection, a new green Ferrari LaFerrari.

Having only taken delivery of the hybrid hypercar on Tuesday, it's been a baptism of fire for the £1 million machine. "It's outstanding," said Jay Kay when the telegraph caught up with him at the top of the hillclimb course. "Having an F40 and the Enzo, and seeing the 10-year development between the Enzo and this is amazing.

"The Enzo is a bit more on the edge, a bit more visceral and you've really got to watch it. This has got more power but it's delivered in just a slightly more civilised way. I say that, actually, but on this [Goodwood hillclimb] course it wasn't that civilised at all. It's still a handful, and these things will still bite you. But it's absolutely superbly put together."

With only 499 LaFerraris being built, Jay Kay is very fortunate to get his hands on one of the 217mph machines.

"I've been watching this car, and going down to the factory, and chatted with Flavio Manzoni , the designer of the car, and Luca de Montezemolo, Ferrari's chairman] a few times," he says. "I remember about two years ago speaking to Luca about it and he said how it looked like a jet and they are still going through development. But the great thing about Ferrari is that every single thing on the car is doing something. It's not for show."
