Ford Focus Strong Sales is the UK

The new model of the Focus has proved to be particularly successful in Ford's line-up as it also ranked as the best-selling diesel model available.

Meanwhile, Ford's general position in the marketplace has proved to be strong after 347,550 of its units took up 14.2 per cent of the total market.

Sales of its commercial vehicles exceeded 88,000, making up 23 per cent of registrations.

Paul Thomas, managing director of Ford of Britain, said: "Ford has made a flying start to an exciting and busy year which will see us launch five new products.

"The 2006 Ford Fiesta and Fusion now on sale will help this retail favourite celebrate 30 years of supermini success since the first Fiesta model arrived on UK roads in 1976."

With strong expectations for the ST model in 2006, the success of the Focus model looks set to roll on into the new year.
