Ford has launched its Ford Focus RS World Rally Car; a car conceived, designed and built in 12 months.

The new car is based on Ford's high performance Focus ST model, launched in Europe this autumn, and follows from Ford's 2003 edition rally model.

Jost Capito, director of Ford TeamRS, said: "What we have unveiled this morning is Ford's future in the WRC.

"Now we have the car that we believe will carry us forward to new levels of competitiveness and a driving team that is capable of bringing world titles to Ford."

The model was designed from scratch and radically restructured to accommodate new FIA legislation on titanium use

Significant improvements have been made to the car's engine, transmission and gearbox performances whilst ensuring production costs were kept at a low, practical level.

Ford aims to bid for championship titles in the 2007 to 2008 seasons. It will use performance results gained from the competition next year to make necessary adjustments to the car.
