Exciting news unfolds as Goodwood unveils the 2024 Festival of Speed theme presented by Mastercard: 'Horseless to Hybrid - Revolutions in Power.' This extraordinary theme pays homage to the rich history of motorsports, marking 130 years since the inception of the world's first motor race. A journey from the original horseless carriages to the cutting-edge hybrid technologies of today will be explored, capturing the evolution of power that has defined the automotive world. In addition to this captivating theme, the 2024 Festival will commemorate several other significant milestones. We will honour the incomparable Niki Lauda on what would have been his 75th birthday, celebrating 50 years since his inaugural Grand Prix victory and the 40th anniversary of his third World Championship. The festival will also pay tribute to the legendary Shadow team, marking 50 years since their triumphant win in the final Can-Am championship and Joest Racing, commemorating the 40th anniversary of their maiden Le Mans victory.
Entering a new era, the Festival of Speed recognises the changing landscape of automotive power. After a century dominated by the internal combustion engine, we stand at a crossroads, with electric, hydrogen, hybrid, and sustainable fuels presenting promising solutions for a greener future. 'Horseless to Hybrid' reflects on the remarkable journey of the automotive and racing industries over the past 130 years and, crucially, looks ahead to the future. This theme will permeate the entire event, from the thrilling hill climbs to immersive experiences in the Future Lab presented by Randox, showcasing the most innovative new technologies shaping the future of mobility.
The Duke of Richmond said: "With this year's theme - 'Horseless to Hybrid – Revolutions in Power' – we're not only reflecting on the past but very much looking ahead to the future of motorsport and automotive technology both here at Goodwood and beyond. Our automotive partners will be showcasing their very latest models with a number of debuts and unveilings set to take place at the event, alongside appearances from legendary motorsport teams from across the disciplines of Formula 1, MotoGP, WEC, WRC, Extreme E and Formula E, whilst continuing to showcase some of the latest innovations in Future Lab, as Goodwood continues to champion the future of mobility and bring unique stories together."
