2022 Kia Niro Preview & Release Date

The Niro is Kia’s compact Crossover/SUV that first hit the showrooms back in 2016, meaning it is a relatively young model.

The second generation Kia Niro should be available in the UK early 2022, with an all-electrified range, slightly bigger dimensions, a bolder design, new tech and improved handling.
2022 Kia Niro Engines and Handling
There are three powertrains, a full hybrid (self-charging hybrid), plug-in hybrid and full electric model, badged the e-Niro, making the new Niro an attractive package with low running costs.
The hybrids will use some clever Kia tech called ‘Greenzone Drive Mode’, it utilises sat nav information to switch to full electric mode in ‘green’ areas, like city centres, populated areas, near schools etc.
The new Niro also features a multilink rear suspension system and updated steering for improved stability and handling.
The New Niro’s Interior
The interior is made from mostly from recycled materials and yet to be officially confirmed but it looks like all models will get the large 10.25-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto/Apple Carplay.
As you move up to higher grade models you’ll get leather interior, a 7-inch colour TFT driver display (entry-level models get a 4-inch dispay), heated front seats and wireless phone charging.
Top grade models will get extras like a premium JBL audio system, heated front and rear outer seats and front seat ventilation.
The slightly larger dimensions of the 2nd gen Niro mean you get a little more room inside. The battery has also been shifted further forward to sit under the rear seats, meaning boot space is improved.
2022 Niro Driver Aids & Safety Tech
It looks like all 2022 Kia Niro models will feature rear parking sensors, rear camera, smart cruise control, an automatic emergency braking system and lane keeping technology. Higher grade should feature additional tech like blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.
