Published Date: 11th Dec 2018

Order books are open for the all-new 2019 (2019.25MY) Ford Kuga range. The revised range features a new trim-level structure, with some models ‘renamed’ with new, improved levels of equipment.

The new 2019 Kuga model line-up consists of

Ford Kuga ExteriorOver the last year Ford has made a strategic move with the Kuga, making it a larger vehicle (81mm longer), meaning more space in the cabin, more legroom and a bigger boot. Effectively Ford have moved the Kuga away from being in direct competition with mid-sized Crossovers like the UK’s most popular Crossover, the Nissan Qashqai and similar contenders like the Mazda CX-5 and Skoda’s Kodiaq.

The larger Kuga fits in and competes directly with more traditional/larger SUVs like the popular KIA Sorenta and the Hyundai Sante. Ford have been smart though and still offer some 2-wheel drive options with more economical engines, knowing full-well they are a popular choice for people who want to combine key features of an SUV with mainstream passenger features for less demanding, urban driving.

The re-positioning of the Ford Kuga has also paved the way for Ford’s new breed of Crossovers the Active models which are Ford's versions of their traditional models; the Ka, Fiesta and Focus featuring Crossover features like a higher driving position and more rugged styling. It will be interesting to see how the KA Active and Fiesta Active take-off as they have little to no competition. The Ford Focus Active should be competing in a much more competitive segment with other existing small to medium sized Crossovers.
