New convertible BMWs have traditionally been an important source of sales for the German firm, with the new 3-Series convertible selling nearly 55,000 units in 2002.

The new CC version is expected to break cover at the 2006 Paris motorshow and will be up against significant competition from a number of manufacturers.

New Peugeot 207CC and 307CC models should be on offer by the time the new 3-Series drop top hits the show rooms and with a new Audi TT CC rumoured to be in development BMW will have to get the 3-Series just right...

Like the new BMW 3 Series Saloon, the Touring will be available with four wheel drive, and as such the 3 Series becomes the fourth BMW variant to feature the xDrive all-wheel-drive system.

Also debuting at the show are four new 5 Series variants. A 520d diesel joins the line-up along side a new BMW 5 Series all-wheel drive diesel. Meanwhile two new eight-cylinder models join the top of the range.

Added to the new BMW diesel selection, and also debuting at the show, is the 730Ld, which sees a three-litre diesel engine crafted into the long wheel base version of the new 7 Series.

A one-off, ultra-desirable, 650i Convertible stole the show on the BMW stand though. There are currently no public production plans for the model...

Also as standard in the entry level model are eight air bags, 16-inch alloy wheels and traction control.

Customers wanting more toys can upgrade to the SE model which includes Park Distance Control; or the M Sport variant, which offers 18-inch alloy wheels and body styling extras.

New BMW 5 Deals

BMW has announced that the list price will be ?26,000 and with BMW models currently available on excellent finance packages through online car sales sites customers may be able to find even cheaper deals.
