New VW Scirocco planned
A new Volkswagen Scirocco coupe is set to launch sometime in 2008, according to German motoring magazine Auto Motor und Sport.
In the current issue of the magazine, which also barks the praises of the new VW Golf R32, it is reported that the new Scirocco will be produced on the cheap new VW Golf platform, with body styling from head of VW design Murat Gunak.
While concept pictures of the new four seater do look sleek, it can hardly be described as a cutting edge piece of design; there are even hints of a not so new Vauxhall Astra at the front end.

It is also not clear yet what effect the most striking design feature, the low profile roof, will have on rear visibility.
Under the bonnet German journalists expect the new Golf's 1.4 litre engine to power the new Scirocco, and before those cries of "underpowered" reach our Bavarian brothers consider the fact that its actually a turbocharged and supercharged engine!
While VW enthusiasts will be eagerly awaiting the return of the Scirocco after a 13-year absence, it is unclear how a 2+2 coupe, expected to sell at around £20,000, fits in with VW brand manger Wolfgang Bernhard's recent pledge that new VWs would take the form of "people's cars".
