VW Polo GTi set for launch

The new Volkswagen Polo GTi, the most powerful Polo ever made, has been confirmed for release by the German manufacturer.

Pictures and spec released today (October 6th) depict a muscular little car with a deep front grille, menacing headlights and big red brake callipers.

The cheap new VW Polo GTi will be powered by 1.8-litre, turbocharged petrol engine capable of pushing it from 0-60 in 8.2 seconds and then on to 134mph.

Externally the Polo takes a number of styling cues from its big brother, the new VW Golf GTi. A rear spoiler, 16-inch alloys and chrome-tipped tail pipes all add to the Polo's sporty new look.

Ensuring that admiring passengers notice the difference inside the car as well VW has thrown in a set of sports seats, a leather steering wheel and a liberal sprinkling of aluminium detailing.

The car is set to debut at the Tokyo Motor Show and will go on sale in the UK early next year offering a cheap GTi alternative to the likes of the new Focus SI and the Vauxhall Astra VXR.

Rumours are also rife that VW may release an even more pepped up R32 version of the car.
