Quickest new Volkswagen Golf unveiled

The most powerful new Volkswagen Golf ever to go into production will be launched at the Frankfurt Motorshow in September.

The new Volkswagen Golf Mk5 R32 will go on sale in the UK in November and pack a 250bhp punch from its 3.2-litre V6 engine.

This brutish power is channelled through a manual six-speed or sequential semi-automatic gear box and drives all four wheels using the new VW Golf's 4-MOTION drive system.

The R32 is instantly distinguishable from the rest of the new VW Golf range by its aluminium grill detailing and large air intake on the front bumper. Side skirts and 18-inch alloy wheels beef up the car from the side profile, and the R32 is 20mm lower than the rest of the cheap new Golf range.

Meanwhile at the back a deep rear bumper, central exhaust pipes and a subtle spoiler make sure that the drivers you inevitably pull away from will have a nice view too.

The new VW Golf R32 will be going up against a host of performance hatchbacks with the new Vauxhall Astra VXR, new Renault Clio Renaultsport and new Ford Focus ST all due for launch in the coming months. On paper the R32 certainly has the ability to compete with a 0-60 of 6.2 seconds and a top speed of nearly 160mph.

There are also not too many creature comforts sacrificed in the name of performance, automatic air conditioning, six airbags and a ten speaker audio system all come as standard.
