With the first of the UK's election debates coming from Manchester tonight, the home of UK Car Discount, the country's leading online new car dealership have provided a fun guide what the party leaders might drive.

UK Car Discount, based in Manchester and the leading new car online dealership will be watching the first of the TV debates between the party leaders with interest. Not only will some of the election manifestoes have a potential impact on the driver going forward, but just for fun, think they can tell who would buy which car based on their leanings.

David Cameron: Educated on the playing fields of Eton and with a silver spoon in his mouth, the Conservative leader will no doubt drive something oozing style and class. Careful to indicate his status, yet mindful of the fact that he is representing the populous. UK Car Discount think the ideal car for Cameron would be a Range Rover to fit in with the country set but it could be something a bit more flash to impress the city boys - we see DC in an Aston Martin, thinking he's James Bond on a mission to save the country.

Gordon Brown: Classic labour through and through, proud of his Scottish heritage and working class roots. The car we think most befits the current premier has to be made in Britain (bit not necessarily British). If Rover were still around, he would be driving a top of the range Rover 75 Connoisseur SE, but given their demise, it has to be solid and reliable, no nonsense Ford Mondeo. The benefits are all there: low cost, good fuel economy, cheap parts and if you know the right garage, cheap labour too!

Nick Clegg: Nick who? The one no-one can remember will drive the type of car that people ask, "Who makes that again?" Or maybe a car that could make a difference such as the Toyota Prius or even something like a Volvo that suggests a serious alternative to other saloons, but we are sure the colour will be reserved and neutral.

The more cynical among you may suggest the cars driven by Labour and Tory are like the political choice; exactly the same, just a different colour and the Lib Dem leader will be on the bus with a few members of the green party!

Whatever vehicles our political leaders drive one thing is certain they will be dealing with the same issues  that affect all motorists such a fuel duty, co2 emissions and the state of the UK road network.
