Nissan Micra convertible revealed

Nissan has unveiled its new Nissan Micra C+C coupe/convertible, which is due to go on sale by Christmas 2005.

The car has been engineered and built in the UK and its folding hardtop roof allows drivers the best of both worlds: Top down summer cruising when the weather is fine, or quite, warm hardtop motoring for the less reliable summer days.

The newest edition to the Nissan Micra range the C+C will be going up against established small convertibles like the Ford StreetKa, Peugeot 206 CC and Mazda MX-5.

However, studio chief designer at Nissan Design Europe, Makoto Yamane, believes that the car has what it takes to make sales: "Chic, elegant and modern, Micra C+C adds a new dimension to the Nissan Micra family.

"Not only does it provide all the style of a convertible, it remains a practical prospect thanks to its sizeable boot. With Micra C+C, owning a convertible need no longer be a compromise."

The Micra C+C is based on a concept car, first displayed at the Paris Motorshow in 2002. It is lower and longer than the standard hatchback model giving it a more elegant profile.

At the touch of a button the retractable hardtop takes just 22 seconds to fold and is largely made of glass, giving the feel of open air driving whether up or down.

Convertible sales have been strong so far this year and Nissan is hoping that new car sales of the Micra C+C will continue this trend in spite of its winter launch.
