New Ford Focus cuts motoring costs
The first cheap new Ford Focus to be fitted with the manufacturers Flexi-Fuel engine is being tested in the UK.
As fuel creeps toward £1 per litre the cheap new Focus will be driven by bioethanol and should prove cheap to run when it goes on sale in March next year. The first batch to arrive in the country will be used in the fleets of Somerset County Council, Avon and Somerset Police, Wessex water and Wessex Grain, all of which are members of the Somerset Biofuel Project.
The cheap new Ford will be the first bio-ethanol fuelled car to be marketed in the UK by a major manufacturer, and Ford's marketing men are hoping that the Somerset pilot will help boost interest in their alternative fuels.

Commenting on the scheme, Paul Thomas, Ford of Britain managing director, said: "As number one in the car and commercial vehicle markets, Ford is expected to lead in the alternative fuel market also. Our customers should not be making any compromise for green motoring.
"With the Flexi-Fuel new Ford Focus we are offering the performance and handling of the UK's favourite car with the option of filling up with bioethanol as the fuel becomes more available. We believe this will happen as more and more vehicle fleets - and eventually private buyers - come to see the benefits of this renewable fuel."
