New Focus ST will come as 5-door

The new Ford Focus ST will be released in five-door form when it goes on sale later this year.

The five-door version of the new Ford Focus will be one of the most practical of the new hot hatches going on sale in the coming months.

Both the three and five-door options will be powered by a 217bhp, 2.5-litre engine, and although no official figures have been released the cars should get from 0-60mph in around six seconds.

For both the three and five-door options, the five cylinder engine will mesh with a six speed manual gear box to power a set of distinctive 18-inch alloy wheels. Lowered, stiffened suspension combined with a deep front and rear bumpers give the new Ford Focus ST a purposeful, aggressive stance.

Meanwhile the obligatory rear spoiler and chrome tipped exhaust pipes set off the sporty look.

On the inside and a new instrument panel includes oil temperature and pressure gauges as well a turbocharger pressure dial, which Ford claims give the new Ford Focus ST a "jet fighter cock pit feeling".

By Christmas the hot hatch market will be burgeoning. The new Ford Focus ST, will join the new VW Golf GTi, the rapid new Vauxhall Astra VRX and the new BMW 1-series M Sport.
