New Nissans set for display

Three cheap new Nissans will be launched at the Frankfurt International Motorshow in September this year.

The new Nissan NOTE is described by the manufacturer as an innovative new small family car, while the new Micra C+C adds a convertible to the new Nissan Micra range

Also set to be unveiled is the sporty new Micra 160SR hatchback.

The five-door NOTE is designed with parents in mind and attempts to combine practicality with a sporty edge. It boasts more interior room than the new VW Golf and will be available with four engine options including a 1.5 litre dCi diesel option.

Joining the burgeoning selection of small coupe convertibles on the market the new Nissan Micra CC will go up against the likes of the new Peugeot 206CC and the cheap new Ford StreetKa.

The Micra C+C does have one trick up its sleeve though. Unique in the small convertible class its folding hard roof is made entirely of glass. It is also longer and lower than the rest of the cheap new Nissan Micra range giving it a sleeker appearance.

Nissan sees the new Micra 160 SR as a rival to the new Vauxhall Corsa and the tricked up new Citroen C2.

At first glance the 160 SR looks like a regular Micra with gym membership. A deep, muscular front bumper houses the fog lights and dark tinted head lamps, while side skirts cut down the road clearance by a few centimetres and the obligatory rear spoiler perches on the back.

Add on a set of limited edition 16-inch alloy wheels in a graphite finish and the look of the SR (which somewhat unimaginatively stands for Street Racer) is complete.
