New Vauxhall Vectra VRX estate gets the nod

Details of the new Vauxhall Vectra VXR estate have been released, and suggest that it is set to be one of the quickest luggage-luggers on the market.

The cheap new Vauxhall Vectra estate will share the same brutish 2.8-litre, 255bhp engine that is crammed under the bonnet of the saloon version. While the manufacturer does not have any official figures yet, top speed for the new Vauxhall Vectra estate is expected to top 160mph.

Vauxhall also claims that the saloon's impressive handling has also been recreated in the estate.

"The estate has a longer wheelbase than the hatchback, so the suspension and handling are different, but it will still handle as well as the five-door," a Vauxhall spokesman told Auto Express.

To handle the extra weight of a fully loaded estate the new Vauxhall has a huge pair of 335mm brake discs melded to its front wheels.

The roomy new Vectra estate will go on sale in March 2006 and is expected to cost around £1,000 more than the five-door version.

While boasting impressive performance figures and the biggest boot in its class the sporty new Vauxhall Vectra VXR estate will have to overcome some serious rivals. While the relatively cheap new Vauxhall Vectra estate will win on cost, the new Saab 9-5 Aero estate will match the Vectra side for stride in pace and refinement.

Meanwhile even the most ardent Vauxhall fan would have to agree that the flag flying griffin cannot match the three pointed star of the new Mercedes C Class estate for prestige.
