Vauxhall's New Vectra selling well

The cheap new Vauxhall Vectra is already proving popular in the UK, with British drivers pre-ordering over 7,000 models before the car even arrives in showrooms.

According to the manufacturer, nearly 4,000 of these cars have been ordered with Vauxhall's 1.9-litre CDTi diesel engine.

An excited Vectra and Signum product manager, Stuart Harris, said that he was pleased by the cheap new Vectra's sales performance, but not entirely surprised: "We're delighted that the car has been so well received by the press and the public alike. It's a real testament to the hard work of Vauxhall's engineers, as buyers are getting the message that this is a car exclusively designed to appeal to UK buyers."

Mr Harris went on to explain that he believes the new Vectra's design, driving dynamics and value for money are set to make it a huge success for the manufacturer.

The new Vectra was specifically developed in the UK for British drivers, bucking the pan-European design trend that is employed by most other manufacturers.

Commenting on the design process, which saw engineers testing on British motorways, towns and rural roads, Vauxhall's vehicle dynamics manager, Simon Johnson, explained: "Our brief was to make the car much more fun to drive in all conditions, and has been made with no loss in ride quality and refinement.

"It is going to be a fundamental part of all future development programmes."
