New Renault Clio revealed

The new look Renault Clio has been unveiled, revealing a sleeker look and roomier interior.

The car will be available as a three door or five door with the three door going on sale in October this year and the five door hitting the streets in January 2006.

With the recent boom in small budget cars Renault is in danger of falling behind the likes of the Fiat Panda, Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1. Renault are hoping that the improved handling and better use of interior space in the new Clio will win sales from its growing band of rivals.

The new Renault Clio III will also offer customers a range of engine and transmission options. The 1.5 litre dCi diesel option is available at 70, 86 and 106 bhp, while the petrol range includes 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 litre 16V options.

For the sporty hot hatch market Renault are offering a six speed gearbox, and for the first time a "quick shift" gear box system.

The "quick shift" gearbox is controlled by Formula 1 style paddles located behind the steering wheel, allowing the driver quick gear changes without having to let go of the wheel.

Prices and further details will be available in August but industry insiders are already speculating high standard equipment spec and excellent EuroNCAP safety ratings.
