New Car Sales in September 2007 Still Strong

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has recently reported on new car sales for this September.

The month of September is traditionally a busy month for car sales and SMMT reported that this September was even better than expected with a total of 419,290 new car registrations.

One key growth area is in alternatively fuelled cars, which has shown a year-to-date jump in registrations of 82.1%. Christopher Macgowan, Chief Executive of SMMT, commented ‘With climate change issues at the forefront of everyone’s agenda, it is encouraging to note the rise in uptake of low-carbon vehicles’.

Although the Ford Focus is still the most popular car so far in 2007, it only came in at third place this September – following the Ford Fiesta in first place and the Vauxhall Astra in second. The best-selling diesel car in September was also a Ford – the new Ford Mondeo.
