Sensible cheap new car is the dream
Nearly 60 per cent of British motorists would prefer a sensible, economical, cheap new car to a sporty number, according to a survey from Alliance & Leicester.
The company's poll of 2,000 cheap new car owners found that 20 per cent consider a small economical hatchback such as the new VW Golf their ideal car. Meanwhile 37 per cent craved a family saloon like the cheap new Ford Mondeo and 11 per cent fancied a cheap new Renault Espace or similar.
Only five per cent of the motorists surveyed coveted sports cars, while three per cent dreamed of a drop-top.
Alliance & Leicester spokesman, Andy Bayes, commented: "When it comes to the crunch, a speedy sports car really isn't the dream car of most motorists today. What they really want is reliability, value for money and comfort - all practical choices for modern-day motorists."
