New models of the Saab 9-5 have been previewed, boasting impressive styling and extensive specifications.

Based on a GM-designed platform, the new vehicle will come in a range of different engines, catering for drivers' diverse needs.

Models will include an aspirated 2.2-litre engine for entry-level models, rising to a top of the range 2.8-litre V6 capable of 250bhp. Diesel drivers will be catered for via 1.9-litre and 3.0-litre V6 units.

Auto Express reports that "gearboxes will…be sourced from GM, with five and six-speed manual transmissions plus an automatic.

"However, there is the possibility of a sporty VW DSG-style twin-clutch sequential system - as debuted by the Aero X."

Previous editions of the Saab 9-5 have been praised for their performance, capable of 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds.

Models have also been available with a range of extra features such as ABS, alloy wheels and air conditioning.
