Younger drivers to get cheaper car insurance (04/08/2006 at 18:22)
Motorists between the ages of 18 and 25 are to get cheaper car insurance from one provider as long as they do not drive their vehicle at certain times of the day.
Around a quarter of accidents in the UK happen to drivers in this age category, despite the fact they only constitute a tenth of total number of motorists in the country.
Furthermore, research from More Than states that accidents tend to occur more frequently between the hours of 23:00 BST and 06:00 BST.
As a consequence, the car insurance provider will give a 40 per cent discount to those drivers so long as they do not drive between those times. If the car is used during this period, a £25 charge is added to the premium.
Bryan Turner, a spokesperson for More Than, commented: "High accident rates for young drivers on the roads at night are a major issue and we have been working for some time to come up with a solution to reduce these."
Initially running as a pilot scheme, DriveTime will be available to around 2,000 vehicles, with budding participants able to apply for it on the provider's website.
