The Taigo is VW’s new sporty-looking Crossover/SUV with couple-like styling, it should be on sale in the UK late 2021. You can contact UK Car Discount on 0161 946 3500 to be kept in the loop about release dates and availability.

The new Taigo will feature a range of frugal petrol engines and standard equipment across the range will include LED lights, VW’s latest infotainment system, an 8-inch digital cockpit (can be upgraded to a 10.25-inch configurable cockpit) and a range of driver assistance tech.

Already available in some areas of South America but badged the ‘Nivus’ the new Taigo will fill a gap in Volkswagen’s SUV/crossover range as a small/sporty CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) and should provide competition for compact Crossovers like the funky Nissan Juke and the Renault Captur that offers great customisation options.

Taigo Driver Assistance Tech

All models across the range gets a front radar system ‘Front Assist’ that includes automatic emergency braking technology, lane departure warning and lane assist.

Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist is also available as an optional extra, it offers state-of-the-art semi-autonomous levels of driver assistance.

Taigo Interior

All models get an 8-inch digital driver display and 6.5-inch infotainment screen.

The driver display can be upgraded to a customisable 10.25-inch display and infotainment system can be upgraded to an 8-inch or 9.2-inch screen. These also bring some additional features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone mirroring.

The interior can also be personalised with designed packs that can be coordinated with paint colours.

New VW Taigo Customisation

Probably with other competitors in mind, like the funky Renault Captur. VW will also offer some vibrant colour combinations and customisation options.

For example, there’s a vibrant ‘Visual Green’ paint colour that can be matched with a design pack to bring interior inserts and contrast stitching to match the exterior (pictured left).

Taigo All Petrol Range

Built on Volkswagen’s MQB Platform (the same platform the Polo and T-Cross are built on), the new Taigo will be available with a choice of three petrol engines.

At launch there will be a choice of two 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder turbocharged petrol powertrains, offering 95bhp and 110bhp power outputs. Both engines will be available with manual gearbox as standard while the 110 TSI will also be available with an optional 7-speed dual clutch automatic box.

A more powerful 1.5-litre TSI 148bhp unit will also be available.

There won’t be an all-out sports performance model, instead VW have gone for a mixture of sporty looks, coupled with sensible running costs.
