New Volvo C70 details revealed
The lid has been lifted on the all-new Volvo C70 ahead of its official launch at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Whereas the outgoing C70 is available as a soft-top or coupe, the new C70 range will be limited to just one body option, a four-seater coup-convertible with a metal folding roof that retracts at the touch of a button.
As such it joins a growing line of coupe-convertibles currently available on the market including the Peugeot 206 CC and 307 CC as well as the Renault Megane CC.
What makes it stand out though is that the new C70 is the only model that can realistically, and comfortably seat four adults. It will initially be available with a 170bhp 2.4 litre engine or 220bhp turbocharged option. A diesel power plant is set to join the party in late 2006.

Volvo has worked hard over the last decade to move away from its boxy uninspiring design signature and for the new C70, the Swedish design team joined forces with the Gucci of car design Pinifarina.
Design manager Fedde Talsma explained: "Putting together harmonious lines both with and without a roof is no easy job. We decided to start with the coupe design. When we were satisfied with the result, we made the necessary adjustments to create a convertible out of the coupe lines."
The new Volvo C70 will go up against executive convertibles such as the Saab 9-3 convertible, Audi A4 cabriolet and BMW 3Series convertible. However its designers hope that the extra rigidity gained from the retractable three-piece hard top will give it a handling edge over its rivals.
"A torsionally rigid body was an important criteria for the new C70's driving behaviour. It makes the car more stable, easier to control and therefore safer - but also makes the all new C70 more dynamic and fun to drive," said C70 project manager Patrik Widerstrand.
