New Subaru hints at hybrid power
Subaru had selected the Tokyo Motor Show to unveil its new hybrid hatchback concept.
|
Most famous for its 1990s, gas guzzling, Subaru Impreza loon-mobiles the manufacturer's eco-friendly side now seems to be stirring.
The three-door B5-TPH combines a neat little electric engine with its regular diesel powerplant.
However, before you begin to lament the morphing of one of the world's performance car innovators into a bearded eco-warrior, bear in mind that TPH stands for Turbo Parallel Hybrid.
|
Running alongside the electric engine is a decidedly uncompromising 2.0 litre turbocharged flat four diesel engine, which produces 256bhp; enough to ruffle any beard!
The new Subaru's styling is described as a "crossover", combining the qualities of a Sport Wagon with an SUV.
It also features the new Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive system and the firm claims that while it is the perfect vehicle for a long weekend getaway the concept does not hint at any future production models.
Cheap new Subaru purists will be pleased to hear that the manufacturer will also be exhibiting a suped up Blitzen Legacy touring wagon as well as the 2006 WRC rally car.
