Mazda has launched a new powerful 2.0 litre diesel engine to its popular Mazda 3 range. This new engine gives 141bhp which is more powerful than its two current diesel engines in the Mazda 3 range. With acceleration of 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds, the new diesel engine is slightly slower than its comparable competitors – the Ford Focus and VW Golf diesels.
Mazda is due to launch a brand new version of its Mazda 2 at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007. Set to compete in the Supermini category against the likes of the Vauxhall Corsa, Renault Clio and Ford Fiesta, the updated Mazda 2 model will go on sale in the UK later this year.
Last year Mazda sold over 50,000 cars in the UK, its best-ever sales figures here. This is a huge increase since, for example, in 2001 they only sold 15,800 Mazda models in the UK. Mazda had 2 top-sellers in 2006, with the Mazda 6 just beating the Mazda 3, whilst the MX-5 was in third place. Managing director Rob Lindley explained why 50,000 is such a significant figure.
Mazda is to launch its new RX-8 PZ on July 1st 2006, which has been billed as a more focused version of the sports coupe. Carpages reports that the new Mazda Rx-8 2006 comes in leather trim and in a choice of Brilliant Black and Galaxy Grey colours. The model retains the speed performance of the previous 231ps model capable, doing zero to 62 mph in a mere 6.

The cheap new Mazda2 range has been given a number of interior and exterior tweaks. Not all the new Mazda2's revisions are cosmetic though, the cheap new supermini has also gained a 1.4-litre diesel engine, which delivers 68bhp and complies with the new European emissions guidelines. Other powerplant options are available in the form of 1.25-, 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrol powered engines.
The new Mazda 3 MPS will be unveiled for spectators at the Geneva Motor Show. It will share the 2.3-litre turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder engine that comes with its elder sibling, the Mazda 6. The engine allows the new Mazda 3 to deliver 274 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, doing an estimated 0-60mph in around six seconds.
Mazda is celebrating record January sales with the release of the new Mazda 3 Sakata, available with a range of new car finance deals from dealerships. It will be available with black mica or Strato blue metallic paintwork, 15-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. It also comes with a sprightly 1.6 litre 104 bhp petrol engine, rear spoiler and air-conditioning.
Mazda sold more sports cars than any of its rivals in the UK last year. Total RX-8 sales in 2005 were 4,971 and the company sold 5,812 MX-5s. Mazda believes the figures would have been even more impressive had supply shortages for the new Mazda RX-8 not dented sales.
The Mazda RX-8 beat off rivals to scoop award for best coupe; for the third year in a row at the What Car? Awards ceremony on Saturday. The magazine commented on the "taut and agile" handling of the vehicle with a supple and yet smooth driving path. Standard features such as electrically adjustable leather seats, CD changer and climate control, were all given nods too.
