Citroen is to reveal its diesel hybrid at the Geneva motor show on January 31 2006. The manufacturer believes the diesel electric hybrid is an effective way of reducing harmful emissions to the environment. It claims that cars already on the market, such as the Citroen C4 HDi have proved that diesels offer better fuel consumption and reduced fuel emissions when compared to petrol hybrids.
Citroen is celebrating strong performances from its major models by taking over a million of its cars to the streets in cities worldwide. In the UK, the Citroen Xsara Picasso was found to have done particularly well, shifting over 200,000 units. It also retained the mantle of Britain's best-selling MPV, outselling competitors Renault and Nissan.
Citroen is getting ready to launch its new C6, a model that can arguably be called the safest car in the world. This is partly due to the car's unique active bonnet, which is raised automatically in the event of an accident, thereby providing greater space for impact absorption. It also features a driver head-up display, which prevents the driver from being distracted while driving.
With starting prices of just £11,195 the cheap new cars have now passed their 200,000 sales mark in Britain and look set to be a popular choice in the new year. Other deals in January include almost £2,000 off for the C4 and a huge £3,650 cut from the Xsara Picasso 1.6Hdi LX.
The new Citroen C6 has been deemed the safest car for pedestrians by Euro NCAP standards. This prevents pedestrians from hitting solid structures, such as the car's engine, and so greatly reduces potential serious pedestrian injuries. Euro NCAP chairman Claes Tingvall says: "It is very gratifying that Citroen have achieved four stars for pedestrian protection.
Driving a new Citroen Xsara, world rally champion Sebastian Loeb has handed the French manufacturer its third consecutive World Rally manufacturer "This season has been so amazing. This weekend with two Citroens on the podium, and the title, is the climax to an unforgettable year," commented Loeb after his victory. "It's been the result of many circumstances: luck, a good car and good tyres.
Citroen has been named as the MPV Maker of the Year by 4x4 MPV Driver magazine. According to the manufacturer nearly 50,000 cheap new Citroen C8, Xsara Picasso and Citroen Berlingo Multispace models have been sold since their launch.
The French carmaker Citroen has revised its new C3 supermini range for 2006, introducing a diesel version. The diesel version is Citroen's most expensive, starting at £13,295. The petrol engine editions start at £9,195 but are available at lower prices through online new car sales. All models include twin air bags, ABS and five 3-point seatbelts.
A New Citroen C5 has been added to the French made range and the manufacturer hopes that its improved equipment levels will temp buyers looking for a cheap new family car.
