Modus wins Scottish small car of the year
The cheap new Renault Modus has been named small car of the year in the Scottish Car of the Year Awards 2005.
"Factor in the huge choice of engine and trim combinations matched to competitive prices and you have one of the most interesting small cars on the road. It may not follow the conventional supermini blueprint but thats partly what makes our choice so appealing," he concluded.
Beating off some stiff competition from the likes of the cheap new Toyota Yaris and Citroen C2 the new Modus brought glowing praise from the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW), who judged the awards.
"Intelligent packaging, big-car comfort and a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating are just some of the key attributes of our 2005 Scottish Small Car of the Year," explained president of the ASMW, Ally Ballingall.

Now in their eighth year, the awards recognised the cheap new BMW 3-Series as the car of the year, putting the new Modus in second place overall.
Commenting on the decision, Mr Ballingall highlighted the BMW's strong residual values and impressive diesel engines as key to the ASMW decision, describing the 3-Series as "an astonishing machine to drive, look at and sit in".
Other winners included the new Ford Focus, cheap new Mazda5 and Mitsubishi Evo IX.
