Record sales of New Hybrid and Electric cars in Q2 2016
Published Date: 9th Sep 2016
Recently released figures from the Department of Transport show 9,657 ULEVs (Ultra Low Emission Vehicles) were registered in quarter 2 2016 (April to June) up 49% on last year and 253% up on 2014.
The increasing take up of the ULEVs is mainly due to the government extending the grant scheme, allowing more than 100,000 additional UK drivers to benefit until 2018.
Alongside the grant scheme extension, the government is investing another £600 million during this parliament to further support the rise in electric and < a href="/new-cars-fuel-types/plug-in-hybrid">plug-in hybrid vehicles. The aim is to have every new car or van emitting zero emissions by 2050.
The government is fully committed to the plan of tackling climate change and reducing air pollution levels across the country. The move is to electric vehicles will help the UK cut emissions down by 80% by 2050

Roads Minister John Hayes said:
"I am delighted to see more drivers than ever are choosing electric vehicles."
"As awareness of the benefits grows, even more motorists will buy these cleaner, greener vehicles, which are cheaper to run."
"These statistics show our investment is making a real difference in encouraging people to choose electric and help protect the environment."
Poppy Welch, Head of Go Ultra Low, added:
"More and more motorists are embracing this new, green technology and helping Britain lead the global low emissions race."
"Electric vehicles have clear advantages, including low running costs and free parking in many locations, which is why it is no surprise they are becoming increasingly popular."
