New Whispering TDi Jaguar

Published Date: 26th Jun 2005

Jaguar has released details of the September launch of its turbodiesel Jaguar XJ saloon. The standard alloy bodied model is currently taking a chunk out of Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Audi A8 sales. Jag is expecting that autumn's addition to the range will shake the market up even further.

The new turbodiesel engine has already received high praise from ITV motoring, which described the 2.7 litre V6 twin-turbo TDVi as "compact, quiet, clean, light" and a "stroke of genius". Its 204bhp takes the car from 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds and tops out at 141mph.

Thanks to deadened glass and heavy engine bay insulation, even at these speeds it is whisper quiet, producing less noise and vibration than the equivalent BMW 7 series and Mercedes S-Class.
