New Mini takes drop top award
The new Mini Convertible has been named as the UK's best drop top in the 2005 Auto Express magazine New Car Honours awards, beating off stiff competition from the likes of the new Renault Megane CC and the new Audi A4 Cabriolet.
With its unique suspension system, legendary go-cart handling and retro appeal though the new comers have a lot of ground to make up.
The awards' judges praised the new Mini's automatic roof, "stylish design, top-notch quality and fun handling", all of which have helped it to four months of record new car sales since March 2005.
Since its launch in 2001 the new Mini has re-established itself as one the country's favourite cars, so much so that the remodelled motoring icon has even produced more new car sales than its manufacturer expected.

However it is starting to face an increasing amount of competition in the supermini market, and the Auto Express award should give it a boost against its main rivals.
Cheap new cars from Peugeot, Citroen and Toyota are about to take to Britain's showrooms in the shape of the new Citroen C1, the Toyota Aygo and the Peugeot 107. All of which are aimed at the same youthful market as the new Mini.
