Mazda's UK sales positive - 10/05/2005

Mazda has revealed that the UK still makes up a majority share (21 per cent) of the non-premium sports car market, bolstered in particular by the popularity of its revolutionary sports coupe the RX-8, which shifted 12,700 since its launch.

It also reported continued strong sales of the world's most popular sports car the Mazda MX-5, which has sold 1,500 models since the beginning og 2005.

Jeremy Thomson marketing director for Mazda commented on their appeal: "Mazda MX-5 has always been an icon as far as open-top motoring is concerned and continues its appeal 15 years on thanks to its excellent handling, performance and excellent residual values.

Mr Thompson went on: "Mazda RX-8 has changed the face of the sports car market in the UK. It brings real motoring excitement to everyday family life."

He enthused: "Given the choice between a standard family saloon or a unique sports car with generous room for children, many customers with families are now choosing Mazda RX-8 to add some excitement to the school run and the supermarket trip thanks to the sporty coup 's unique practicality!"
