Ford Focus Technology

Published Date: 3rd Nov 2011

We have just been looking at the New Ford Focus and this is a vehicle that offers some innovative technologies that help the driver so much, Have a look below at the Driver assistance technology available on the New 2012 Ford Focus.

Ford Active Park Assist - The new Ford Focus almost parks itself, firstly the sensors check you have enough room for your car and once you select the active parking system you can let go of the steering wheel and simply operate the gears, clutch and brake and the car helps you park the car with a series of visual and audible alerts. This is a great system if you are the kind of driver who struggles to get your car into small spaces.

Lane Departure Warning & Lane Keeping Aid - This system gently vibrates you wheel if you start to drift out of your lane, and if you are slow to respond the Lane keeping Aid will help you stay in the lane by applying steering input to keep you in your lane.

Traffic Sign Recognition - Its always frustrating when you’re looking in the mirror and you miss the traffic or speed limit signs, but this need happen no longer as the New Ford Focus now displays the last two road signs on the driver instrument panel. This system can also help you stay within the speed limit as it will alert you if you slip over the speed limit for the road your on.

Hill Start Assist - This system stops you rolling backwards when making a start on a hill, you release the brake when stationary and this keeps the vehicle static until you pull away and in doing so retains the vehicles stability.

Automatic High Beam Assistant - This is a clever night time driver aid as it detects oncoming traffic and automatically dips the headlamps so you don’t dazzle the oncoming driver. A good safety aid which should be standard on every uk car in our opinion.

Speed Limiter System - This works in conjunction with cruise control system and once set it keeps you to the speed limit unless you decide to override the system by pressing the accelerator. This is a good safety system for long journeys as it let you keep your eyes on the road as you dont need to watch your speed once set.

Low Speed Safety system - When driving you car at low speeds within traffic this system detects the car in front of you if it stops suddenly and ensures your brakes are applied automatically.

Last but not least in the New Ford Intelligent protection system and this is what Ford say about their fantastic safety system:

"For you and your passengers, the all-new Focus has an enhanced Intelligent Protection System (IPS). With hi-tensile steels in the body that create a rigid structure to absorb energy efficiently, the overall design approach ensures all the systems work together effectively. If called upon, the array of airbags are designed to comprehensively shield the driver and passengers. The car uses innovative sensors to activate the appropriate safety systems, such as all-round airbags, in a split-second. Plus, there’s an advanced steering column and retracting pedals that all collapse away from the driver to reduce injury in case of impact. Whether one or five people are travelling, IPS makes you feel safer in the knowledge of the technology that’s there to protect you".

There are lots of other safety systems on the New Ford Focus such as seat belt reminders, auto dimming rear view mirrors, Driver Alert and Blind Spot information system.
