These results werefrom the Efficient-C research programme, carried out as a collaboration between Ricardo, QinetiQ and PSA Peugeot Citroen. Alan Klein, director of hybrid vehicles development at PSA Peugeot, commented: "We are delighted with the results from this research project which demonstrates the potential for a step change in CO2 emissions reduction with a diesel parallel hybrid." "The challenge now is for the motor industry and its suppliers to achieve the cost reductions required for the mass production of diesel hybrids to be considered," he added. It was recently reported that certain car insurers are rewarding drivers of hybrid cars by reducing the rates of their car insurance premiums. Hybrid cars cause less harm to the environment by reducing levels of harmful emissions and by consuming less fuel. 5th June 2006
